:::groan:::

FYI: Orange Muscat is not, repeat, NOT good wine.
Drinking an entire bottle of it in one sitting is a BAD choice.
Even if you do it while watching reruns of The Office.

I'm going to go lay down now, and possibly vomit.

My Triumphant(ish) Return!

Wow...I turn my back for a little while and Google goes and buys this place. Along with most everything else. Does that mean I have to stop doing evil now?

Now that I'm back there are going to be some changes around here. Most importantly, this blog (DAMN I wish someone would come up with a better name) will focus exclusively on booze and booze-related matters. Boring crap about my personal life will be posted on my other blog.

That's if for now. I'll have some real updates soon. No, really!

Socks

TBS just showed a commercial for their upcoming airing of the Lord of the Rings.
The commercial was a montage of scenes with Frodo and Sam.
The background music was "Secret Lovers" by Atlantic Starr.

I laughed so hard, socks came out my nose.

You figure it out.

Into the suck

So what was that I was saying about posting more regularly? Yeah.
Funny how life gets in the way of things.

It's looking like it's going to be even more in the way real soon now. Due to some financial difficulties that I won't go into here, i've been forced to take a second job. This is really going to eat into my free time. I'm even going to have to cut out some of my hobbies. I figure i'll have to give up either drinking or touching myself in the shower. Seeing as I absolutely will not have time to date, this is going to be a very difficult choice.

I'm definitely going to have to cut back on my latest time-sucking hobby. I've tried MMORPG's in the past and never liked them. They're tedious and repetitious and they make you buy them again on a monthly basis. I'm not sure exactly why I decided to give Eve Online a try, but i'm sure the crack-dealer-inspired two week free trial had something to do with it. Hooked me big time.

Years ago, when I was spending my time fooling around on a Commodore64, I met a lovely game named Elite. It was love at first sight, our whirlwind romance seemed destined to last a lifetime until we were torn from eachothers arms by a dead processor. Elite was ahead of it's time in 1985. I know because i've been looking for a worthy successor ever since.

Eve is it. I've been playing for about two months now, and i've just scratched the surface of what there is to do. I quickly grew tired of other MMORPG's because of the repetition. You do a mission and earn points. After you've earned enough points you advance to the next level where you do the exact same mission, the only difference being that the numbers are bigger. Again and again. And again. To be fair, there is some of that in Eve as well, but it's disguised a lot better. For one thing, there are no levels. Instead, there are skills that you need to train in. You can do anything you want to in the game as long as you've got the skills. No locking into a certain profession or character type. Tired of mining? Try trading. Too dull? Try combat. Feeling naughty? Be a pirate. Got an urge to explore? the Eve universe is HUGE. You really could spend years exploring.

I can't say how long i'll stick with this. Buying the same game month after month still bothers me. For now though, there are still a lot of things that I want to accomplish in the game.

Too bad i'm not going to have the free time.

Game Day

Wow. Just...wow.
Certainly the most thrilling game of the year.
This was exactly the kind of performance the Chargers needed to put out this week.
The sort of performance they should have put out last week, but that's another blog entry entirely.

There was a lot of speculation flying around about how the Colts, having already earned their spot in the Super Bowl and the home field advantage, would sit out their starters and put in the backup players. Probably a good idea. They had nothing to gain by winning this game except perhaps a perfect 16-0 season, and you don't get a trophy for that.

But the Colts felt differently. Damned if they were going to roll over and let another team beat them at their own house. So they played. Man, did they play.

But the Chargers came to play too, and they played with some fire. They dominated the first half of the game, going into halftime with a 13-0 lead. Colts came back to regain the lead, but the Chargers rallied and knocked them right back down. The Colts quarterback spend a pretty significant portion of the game laying on the ground, thanks to an absolutely amazing Chargers defense. Unfortunately they offset that by a lot of penalties. It made for what was easily the most exciting game i've seen in a long time. Took it right down to the last second.

So. Chargers shook off the lethargy that cost them last week's game. Beat one hell of a good team in their own house. And their hopes for a postseason, albeit slim, remain alive.
